Our home cinema demo room facility is featured with interviews with Ben Hobbs about how CInema@Home went about designing and building their amazing home cinema demo room.

We had the opportunity to host our suppliers Pulse Cinemas recently - They were keen to see the level of performance we were able to do demonstrate with the equipment they represent.

Whilst here Simon interviewed Cinema@Home owner/founder Ben Hobbs for his Sofa Sessions.

Our home cinema demo room is now complete, it features the latest in 4k projection with a Sim2 Domino projector. Sound is provided through an Anthem MRX1140 and Paradigm Pro speakers in an 5.2.4 configuration. Two Paradigm Defiance X12 subwoofers provide the low end. Kaleidescape movie system provides the highest bitrate, ultra 4k Dolby Atmos movies.

It’s week 10 of working on our home cinema demo room build and we are fitting subwoofers, motorising cinema recliners, tracking down and eliminating buzzes and rattles and putting our AV Rack in.

Sound Pressure Level (SPL) is a measurement of sound intensity,

The lowest sound pressure which can be heard by humans is called the hearing threshold at 0dB.

The highest which can be endured before its painful is 130dB.

Humans perceive sound to be twice as loud when there is a 10dB difference. Every 10dB increase doubles how loud we perceive it. Every 10dB decrease means we perceive it to be half as loud.

It’s week 9 of working on our home cinema demo room build and we are laying carpet, fitting our fortress seating in and getting the office furniture set up.

It’s week 8 of working on our home cinema demo room build and it’s been busy.

We started off finishing the painting, then the mural wall was put up. We go into a little detail about mood lighting and play around with some fun scenes.

The starfield ceiling finally goes up (we’ve been waiting for the painting to finish).

Finally we fit acoustic seals and Batwings to the door.

Mood Lighting For A More Immersive Experience

Before we watch a movie we can prime ourselves and our audience to be more engaged and immersed in the atmosphere.

The result is a more engrossing, fun, experience. You can use mood lighting to tailor your room for different movie genres. Different lighting scenes for action, horror, sci-fi, romantic movies.

It’s week 7 of working on our home cinema demo room build. This week we finish out boxing the office/workshop space out. Fit the double oak doors, start framing out the main cinema ready for our acoustic fabric system and then start the painting.

Our workshop and office is located on one side of the building opening out to the demo room on the other side.

May 4th has become known as Star Wars Day to fans of the films.

The date originates from the pun "May the Fourth be with you", a variant of the popular Star Wars catchphrase "May the Force be with you" uttered by General Dodonna to the rebel fighters before they begin their assault on the Death Star.

Our Home Cinema Demo Room Build - Week 6

Work continues on our new home cinema demo room.

This week we take a look at the fibre optic star engine that will power our star-ceiling.

We finish off the boxing out of the cinema room. Wire up the speakers and get ready to receive our home cinema seats.

On Friday Logitech announced they will no longer be developing or making their line of Harmony all-in-one remotes.

Having used hundreds of their products over the years we are sad to see them go but there are better products on the market, so its not altogether a surprise.

Our Home Cinema Demo Room Build - Week 5

Work continues on our new home cinema demo room.

This week we trim out the rockwool which will help act as a Bass Trap within the room.

We paint the room matt black, our acoustic treatments arent aesthetic so we paint black and will later add acoustically transparent fabric walls.

We also unbox one of our Paradigm X12 Defiance Subs and take a look at the Isotek Power Conditioner we will have in our equipment rack.

Work continues on our new home cinema demo room.

This week we continue working on the acoustic treatment with both absorption and diffusion.

Our dual subwoofers arrive and we get our hands on the RTi remote control we are going to use to program everything to turn on with a touch of a button.

Our Home Cinema Demo Room Build - Week 3

Work continues (albeit at a slightly slower pace this week) on our new home cinema demo room.

Starting off with deliveries of our Sanus, Starscape, Vicoustic and Paradigm equipment.

Then it’s acoustically treating the room with a mixture of absorption and diffusion.

Our Home Cinema Demo Room Build - Week 2

Updates on the progress - OSB, MDF and Rockwool into walls and ceilings. Bulkhead and dividing partition go in and the lights and are starting to be fitted, cut out speaker holes ready for the 5.2.4 Dolby Atmos surround system.

Vicoustic are making waves in the industry with their new HQ and Manufacturing facility in Portugal. It’s set to be the largest factory in the world in the acoustics sector.

They produce a range of acoustic absorbers and diffusers to help tame and control acoustics in Home Cinema, HiFi, recording studio and commercial environments.

Our Home Cinema Demo Room Build - Week 1

Updates on the progress - Design and engineering considerations as we build out in terms of acoustics. Stage 1 of the plan involves building out an 8mx4m room within a room.

(Torbay) Paignton Picture House is one of the most important historic cinemas in the UK and It’s just been given a £200,000 grant. It was opened on 16 March 1914 and is believed to be the oldest surviving cinema in Europe.
